Sue Yeo, Chairperson & Instructor
ACAI - Agility Club Approved Instructor

Sue joined the club in January 1999 with her well-known West Highland White Terrier, Scrapper. A local veterinary surgeon, whose practice is based in Backwell, Sue has been training Scrapper in agility since he was a year old. He is currently a Novice dog with Sue, although he can occasionally be seen training with young handler Rhianna Harman. This little dog sets the standard for small dogs in the club, and has a big personality making him a firm favourite.

Sue’s Best Moments
“Going to agility lesson number 13 with a new trainer and different people, and discovering how much talent Scrapper had”.

Sue’s Worst Moment
“Scrapper leaving the ring to chat up 2 Golden Retrievers at Longleat 2003, when he was supposed to be doing Junior Agility with Stefan Russ”!

Memories from First Shows
“A friend deciding Scrapper was too hot to work, so she sent him into the river Tone after her collie. Wet collie looks fine & dries quickly. Wet WHWT doesn’t. I took a bedraggled wreck into the ring to get his first clear round”. Ed note – perhaps this is the answer to achieving clear rounds….

Sue’s Current Position in the Club
Sue is currently chairwoman & a trainer for the club.

Training
Sue began training other club members in approx. 2000. Good handlers for her are people who can “think agility from the dogs point of view” and be patient with themselves and their dogs. Sue herself trains Scrapper for about 2 ½ hours per fortnight.

Club Business
The amount of time Sue spends on club business varies, but about 15 minutes planning lessons, plus teaching and committee.

Favourite Aspect of Agility
“Meeting other people who are interested in dogs. I’ve made lots of new friends and visited several places I’d never have been to otherwise”.

Least Favourite Aspect of Agility
“Waiting for the last class of the day, when your previous run was the first class of the day”.
