Julian & Maureen Krautmann

This agility couple was two of the founder members of the club in 1987. Their two dogs Alpha (Julian’s) and Saxon (Maureen’s) were a couple of the original club’s dogs. Both began training when they were around 2 years old, with Alpha winning out of Starter classes by the end of his career and Saxon becoming a Senior dog. You will now see Julian with their other dogs, Luke & Amy (who are now retired from the sport), Rio whom Julian currently competes with and new girl Molly who is just 6 months old. This is a German Shepherd household, in a proud minority at the club where border collies and working sheepdogs prevail.

Julian’s Best Moments
“Competing with Alpha in the National ABC final”.

Julian’s Worst Moment
“The day Alpha was retired from agility”.

Memories from First Shows
“The small class numbers”. As most will know, your average standard class size is around the 200 + mark nowadays!

Julian’s Current Position in the Club
Julian has spent the last 6 years as treasurer to the club.

Training
Julian has been training other club members since approx. 1990. His sense of humour and patience are the two things that stand out about him, and he is a popular trainer at the club. For him, a good handler is someone who can run their dog with the minimum amount of commands & movement. And most importantly, someone who is kind to their dog whatever happens.

Club Business
At a rough estimate, Julian considers he spends around 1 ½ - 2 hours a week on club business. Obviously this figure is greatly increased when Severnside is running one of its shows, and the whole committee is very busy during these times.

Favourite Aspect of Agility
“Feeling of achievement when you do a good clear round, whatever the placing”.

Least Favourite Aspect of Agility
“Queuing in a crowded indoor arena”.
