What is Rally?
This is a relatively new canine sport which has been introduced into the UK via the Association of Pet dog
Trainers and will soon be adopted by the Kennel Club to become a sport enjoyed by KC registered breed
and cross breed dogs.

Who is Rally for?
Rally has been introduced successfully to those wishing to further their training skills with young dogs
requiring more controlled work, older dogs who may have retired from other more strenuous activities
or dogs of any age who owners feel would enjoy learning a new discipline.

What does it involve?
Ultimately each dog and handler partnership (Team) are expected to move around a pre arranged course
of signs and complete whichever exercise is denoted on the sign before moving onto the next one. The
aim of this sport is to complete the exercises in a way which leads to the least amount of deductions.
The purpose of the Rally Training for Trainers Level 1, is to introduce the rules and training techniques in
order for participants to be able to deliver training in classes, small groups or to individuals on the
principles of how to perform Rally potentially to competition standards. Although, this can also be
applied to training those who wish to be non competitive.

Dog Training can be a very isolating profession and this new training innovation is aimed at providing
both existing and potentially new pet dog trainers an opportunity to learn training techniques on how
to present classes to pet dog owners which are rewarding and fun for the owner and their dog.
These new courses will follow the existing format for all Training for Trainers series with both theory
and practical based session and will usually be two full days for each level.
There will be three levels:
Level 1 will cover puppy classes, including setting up, venues, class sizes, fees, and every aspect of
providing a safe and effective learning environment. There will be course content, training techniques
and theories of learning.
Level 2 will cover adolescent courses and the series of classes and how to manage them, together with
advice and information on specific problems which will be encountered when training this type of class.
Level 3 will cover advanced learning and how to offer further advice on problem dogs in the classes,
through referral, containment and assistance for the dog owner.

They can always find a show catalogue within an arms reach.

And they have kids who know more about the birds and the bees when they are five than most people know at 40.

Dog agility people will drive 100 miles, spend £50 on petrol and £10 on meals to bring home a 25p rosette.

Dog agility people drive vans.

And they can never be reached on weekends, unless you happen to be at the same show.

They have trouble getting to work on time but can be at ringside by 8:00 am.

Dog agility people will give up a £150,000 home to move to a shack on 10 acres so they can have a £150,000 dog kennel.

Dog agility people have children who grow up believing ‘Bitch’ is just another household word.

Dog agility people do not have gardens.

Dog agility people may pay the mortgage 10 days late BUT never miss a closing date for entries.

Dog agility people would rather be audited by the Inland Revenue than investigated by the KC.

Dog agility people use dog food bags for rubbish and rubbish bins for dog food.

Dog agility people talk on the phone for hours to another dog person in a language known only to dog people.

Dog agility people have parents and family who think they’ve lost their minds, neighbours who think they’re strange and doggy friends who think they’re terrific!!
